Designer Egg Tray
New Neff fridges will come with this golf-ball-textured extendable egg tray by German design studio WerterlOberfell. “Eggwave demonstrates that a relatively uninteresting product typology can become quite exciting. It embodies our digital design process and shows that ‘digital design’, which is kind of a synonym for crazy shapes, can become a mass-produced mainstream product that has an almost invisible serving function.” Via Dezeen.

DESIGN IN DISASTERS
As survivors and thrivers of Hurricane Sandy, Red Peak has truly seen the importance of engineering and design when facing a natural disaster.  A Japanese designer put together an ingenious survival kit we wish we had had access to while weathering the storm.  The Japanese earthquake and tsunami last year, Hikaru Imamura created a survival kit based on his mother’s experiences as a rescue volunteer.  The kit resembles an oil drum and can sustain up to 30 people for two days time.  The Heat Rescue Disaster Recovery Set transforms the drum into a wood-burning stove and includes freeze-dried rice, bottled water, work gloves, and 200 pre-cooked food portions.  Imamura has plans to tailor the sets for specific locations and events as well as smaller units for individual families.

Fusefones are a set of concept headphones that not only allow you to listen to music, but also allow you to share it. The headphones can scan your library to determine your music taste, and you can plug headphones together into a speaker to create a playlist that combines the music tastes of you and your friends.

Sea-Inspired Seating
This unique, marine-inspired design adopts the basic form of one of the world’s naturally occurring sculptural elements, the seashell. The elegant shape has always attracted the eye of artists, scientists and designers and like the seashell, this design’s eye-catching, bilateral symmetry and natural strength are also sure to pass the test of time. Contrasting cylindrical cushions, expert craftsmanship and a subtle nautical feel make it a great compliment to classic and contemporary spaces alike.
